Long ago there was a little frog that was very beautiful and green. Legs long like flat green beans and arms that look exactly the same, creativity has never been less. It was a beautiful frog with eyes like to magic 8-balls, except there was absolutely no wisdom behind them, no answers and no knowledge, only elevator music. This frog is now known as Kermit, or as the frogs closest friends call it; Beauty.
Kermit, Belle, Beauty etc etc everyone, the princess has so many different names, you don't know what name you'll get when you buy your copy. Kermit and I picked up the 2006 version written by Max Eilenberg which is the most beautiful copy and I love the illustrations they're incredibly cute and magical.
Everyone knows this short story but just to recap it's the beautiful youngest daughter of a man that asks for a rose as a gift from his journey and he picks one from Beasts garden which leads to Beauty or Belle being having to live with Beast so he doesn't kill her dad. The story goes on, Beast is ugly, Beauty is not yet somehow they fall in love and Beast turns into a handsome prince because his curse breaks etc etc.
It has been a long time since I picked up anything princess-y and honestly it was quite magical. Eilenbergs version of the book is very easy to read and very amusing, the slight sense of humour really recaps the story in your memory and makes it light-hearted. The illustrations of the book were absolutely the best part of it all. Nothing was as fun as getting to see the castle or the characters, when mixed up with your imagination it turns into this little magical space in your mind. I loved that you could see Beautys room and see when she would dine in the big hall but most of all I loved the rose garden.
I think it's relaxing for your mind when you get to read cross-literature aka literature aimed for children but can be read by adults. It was nice to not have to read anything that rips your heart apart and you're expecting the happy ending of the story which makes it all better in my opinion.
So this is less a book review and more a reminder to take a break sometimes and just go for that young literature, it can really put your mind at ease.
